Each line is marked as labour or materials, so CIS is only ever worked out on the part it applies to.
Deduct CIS at your rate and add reverse charge wording in one click, without looking up the rules.
A due date, how to pay and the invoice number as the reference, so you get paid faster.
What to put on it, how CIS works, and when not to charge VAT.
Checklist
VAT registered? A VAT invoice also needs your VAT registration number, the VAT rate and the VAT amount for each line.
CIS
Working for a contractor under the Construction Industry Scheme? Split labour and materials. CIS is only taken from the labour part, at 20%, 30% or nothing with gross payment status. The invoice builder works out the deduction and shows what you should actually receive.
VAT
Many building jobs between VAT-registered businesses fall under the domestic reverse charge. You do not charge VAT, and the invoice must say the customer accounts for it. Switch on the reverse charge option and the right wording is added for you.
Yes. The invoice builder is free with no sign-up. Fill it in, then save it as a PDF and send it to your customer. Nothing you type is saved on our site.
Your business details, the customer’s name and job address, a unique invoice number, the date, each part of the work priced separately, the total due and your payment terms. VAT-registered builders also need their VAT number and the VAT amount.
Show labour and materials as separate lines. Your contractor deducts CIS from the labour part only, so enter your CIS rate and the invoice shows the deduction and the amount you will actually be paid.
Only if you are VAT registered. If the domestic reverse charge applies, do not add VAT and state that the customer accounts for it. Check with your accountant if you are not sure which applies.
As soon as the work, or the agreed stage of it, is finished. Sending it the same day, with a clear due date, is one of the simplest ways to get paid on time.
No. The invoice builder works entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is saved, stored or sent to us, so save the PDF before you close the page.
